  • update on LAN Services project (Marc Franke)

This project team is working with Liberal Arts as a early adopter. An AD / Microsoft file storage model which preserves the traditional Novell drive mappings is being deployed in some CLAS test sites.

  • updates on Reliable Computing projects

    • Marc Franke -- see handout below

    • Steve Fleagle -- see Blasen handout below. The focus is on the projects rated urgent and high priority.

    • Jane Drews  -- output from the communications project will feed into the disaster plans project, and from the personal computing project into the policies project.  Anticipate startup for these after the first of the year.

  • Microsoft Risk Assessment engagement (Jane Drews)

The University is engaged in a third-party risk assessment of the Enterprise Authentication Service, focusing on infrastructure, applications, operations and people aspects of the environment, which was sponsored by Microsoft Corp.  It is scheduled to be completed Dec 19.

  • Enterprise authentication password controls (Jane Drews)  -- The second phase of the Enterprise Authentication Password Controls improvement project is now underway. See presentation below.

  • AD Forest upgrade to Windows 2003 (Chris Pruess) -- See handout below.

Windows 2003 is version 2 of Active Directory. The Enterprise Admin group has spent the last several months planning for an in-place upgrade of the shared campus forest.

The Directory & Authentication Services (DNA) group is coordinating the testing of enterprise clients. Those of you who have services authenticating with Hawk ID are invited to participate in the testing.

Even if you do not believe you need to test your service, you are encouraged you to identify your service to DNA as an enterprise service. DNA can better serve your enterprise authentication needs just by knowing a little more about what you are doing locally.

  • Proposal for spring IT Tech forums (Mark Hale, Karen Shemanski) -- CITL will be polled on the proposal
