NSC-040726: W32.Mydoom.M@mm virus

This morning a new virus started spreading across campus. This virus appears to come from technical support of the university. In fact this message is a virus and the attachment should not be opened. As a policy, attachments are NEVER sent with notification of a problem. If you should receive a message like this, please do not open the attachment. The message can have a number of formats. Here is an example of one seen on campus:

Dear user (username)@uiowa.edu,

We have received reports that your e-mail account was used to send a huge amount of unsolicited email during the recent week. We suspect that your computer had been compromised and now runs a trojaned proxy server.

Please follow our instruction in order to keep your computer safe.

Sincerely yours,
uiowa.edu technical support team.
