NSC-050531: Wells Fargo Scam Email

Over the Memorial Day weekend a message that appears to have come from Wells Fargo was delivered to almost everyone on campus. The payroll, benefits, and help desk offices are receiving a lot of questions from people regarding it. This message is a scam designed to steal your personal information and possibly infect your computer with some type of trojan virus.

Instruct users to NOT follow the link in this or any message that requests personal information unless the person is expecting that message. If you have any doubts about a message, you should call the institution that it appears you received the message from to verify it's authenticity. Banks or other financial institutions will not send you e-mail asking for personal account information.

You have received this email because you or someone had used your account from different locations. For security purpose, we are required to open an investigation into this matter.

In order to safeguard your account, we require that you confirm your banking details. To help speed up this process, please access the following link so we can complete the verification of your Wells Fargo OnlineR Banking Account registration information : https://<link removed>

Please Note:

If we do no receive the appropriate account verification within 48 hours, then we will assume this Wells Fargo Bank account is fraudulent and will be suspended. The purpose of this verification is to ensure that your bank account has not been fraudulently used and to combat the fraud from our community.

We appreciate your support and understanding and thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
