Collaboration is key to the success of IT at the University of Iowa. The CIO engages with university and IT governance teams to coordinate and communicate technology initiatives.

At the campus level, the CIO serves on several of the university’s Strategic Plan Action and Resource Committees (SPARCs) to ensure that technology needs of strategic initiatives are met. The UI Information Technology Advisory Committee provides input on technology activities.

The OneIT governance process includes an executive committee to provide strategic guidance to the CIO on prioritizing and planning OneIT projects, and a technical committee to manage the enterprise technology architecture.

The UI is active in regional and national technology organizations, including Unizin, the Big Ten Academic Alliance, EDUCAUSE, the Northern Tier Network, the BOREAS Network, and the Common Solutions Group.

In addition, more than a dozen communities of practice foster cooperation and learning among the many IT groups on campus.
